Saluti da Firenze!

Ciao a tutti!
Well, it's Venerdì Santo and here we are in beautiful Florence. Yesterday the girls were all successfully enrolled at the uni in Perugia, after their entrance test, and they even managed to have a two hour conversation class in the afternoon with a chatty teacher called Laura. It was challenging at times but everyone had a go. The girls then had the chance to go out in groups to explore the main centre of Perugia, making their first forays into finding the best coffee, snacks and gelati in town.

This morning we took the MiniMetro monorail down to the station for the start of our jaunt to Florence. The train ride through the beautiful green countryside was beautiful, especially as we passed Italy's biggest lake, Lago Trasimeno. This lake is so big that it has inhabited privately owned islands in it. We arrived in Florence at about midday and, after checking into the hotel and grabbing a quick bite to eat, we set off for the long anticipated shopping adventure in the markets. The afternoon was spent in the sunshine exploring the two markets and the streets which connect them, interspersed with a visit inside Florence's beautiful pink, green and white marble Cathedral. Our final stop was to see the Ponte Vecchio with its dazzling array of gold jewellery and to check out the bridge featured in a short story the Year 12s studied last year, before returning to the hotel for a rest before dinner.
It looks like our luck with the weather is about to run out too - the forecast is cold and wet for the next few days. Despite this, we'll still be out and about.
Buona Pasqua a tutti!
