La bella Verona!

Ciao a tutti!
We're back from our very busy weekend up north - starting with a 7:17am train on Friday morning which necessitated a 6:42am bus ride to the station. Still, the beautiful sunrise made the early start more bearable. On our way north we had to change trains twice, finally arriving in sunny Verona just after midday.

Depositing our bags at the station, we then walked into the city centre along the old outer city walls until we reached Piazza Bra and the Arena, Verona's well preserved amphitheatre which is still used today for concerts. After a quick lunch, our next stop was a visit to Juliet's House, where we could see the famous balcony and touch the statue of Juliet in the court yard.

Having ensured that everyone would indeed find their true love, we wandered the stylish Piazza Erbe and the terrazzo-clad streets of the centre, eventually ending up at the Ponte Scaligeri. This crenellated bridge spans the Adige River, which sparkled in the beautiful sunshine. By this time, the afternoon was drawing to a close so we headed back to the station for our final leg in to Venice. Naturally, since everything up to that point had gone smoothly, it was chaotic at the station as ticket machines continuously shut down in the middle of the attempted transactions. We finally managed to get the tickets and were on our way to Venice.
